Warner Celebrates 70 Years of Singin' in the Rain by Splashing the Classic Film on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on April 26
Posted Wed Mar 2, 2022 at 08:11 AM PST by Tom LandyOne of the most beloved films ever to hit the silver screen will be celebrating its 70th anniversary on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on April 26.
The classic musical romantic comedy stars Gene Kelly, Golden Globe Best Actor-Winner Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchel and Cyd Charisse, and was directed and choreographed by Kelly and Stanley Donen (On the Town).
In 1989, Singin' in the Rain was one of the first 25 films selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film ranked 10th on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Movies list, 16th on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Laughs list, 16th on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Passions list, “Singin’ In The Rain” was 3rd on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Songs list, and the film was number 1 on AFI’s Greatest Movie Musicals list.
The remastered film showcases 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR) and although this release doesn't specify the soundtrack,we would hopefully assume that it comes with Dolby Atmos.

It's The Ides of March For Your Wallet - HDD 4K Ultra HD Shopping Guide March 2022
Posted Tue Mar 1, 2022 at 08:12 AM PST by Matthew HartmanWhat, did you think the studios and boutique labels would take the month off just because we had a stacked February with an intensely busy April and May release frame coming?
Considering everything that's coming our way in the next few months, the one good thing we can say is that March is relatively light. There are some great catalog titles coming along with a few new releases with quite a few long-awaited favorites. We get a mix of new and old. Werewolves and Keanu Reeves. Italian Mobsters and Russian Mobsters. And while this month might be on the light side, doesn't mean it'll be cheap! With that - let's get into it:
High-Def Digest's March 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping Guide
March 1st, 2022 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases
Just because it's Fat Tuesday doesn't mean the month has a lot to indulge in. In fact, there's only one release and it's a repackage of discs that are already available.
James Bond: The Daniel Craig 5-Film Collection - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
March 8th, 2022 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases
Things pick up a little bit this month with a return to The Matrix leading the pack with Downton Abbey getting an upgrade just before the second film hits theaters, and another Argento film slips onto 2160p.

March 15th, 2022 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases
Well, of all the days for the knives to come out for your wallet - this is historically fitting! Between multiple classics reaching 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray thanks to KLSC, Criterion, Arrow, and Scream Factory all have new releases on top of Paramount dropping a couple with Disney/20th Century Studios doing a full-court press for Spielberg's latest Oscar contender.

March 29th, 2022 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
And as quietly as March started, it goes out on a pretty soft note. But between a legendary concert film and a popular kid's flick, there's still some good stuff worth checking out.
Sing 2 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
The Last Waltz - Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
And that just about does it. As always, release dates can change and if that happens we'll update our listings and this article as soon as we can. Scouring around the international releases, the only notable title we'll be covering is The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K SteelBook from Turbine Media Group - but that doesn't street until the end of the month and customs can be a little dodgy delaying delivery, so we'll get to it when we can as soon as we can.
Once again - thank you for your pre-orders. They really do go a long way towards keeping our little corner of the interwebs alive and going.

Scream Factory Stacking May 4K with Escape From New York, Lifeforce, The Craft, and Candyman Collector's Editions
Posted Mon Feb 28, 2022 at 05:51 AM PST by Matthew HartmanThanks to Amazon, horror and sci-fi fans got to take an early gander at Scream Factory's thus far unofficially announced May 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray lineup!
While Scream Factory has yet to comment - and we expect them to formally announce soon enough - Amazon has listings for new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Collector's Editions ofJohn Carpenter's Escape From New York, Bernard Rose's Candyman, Andrew Fleming's The Craft, and Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce.
I'm not at all surprised with the Candyman news - after Friday's spur of Arrow and Turbine Media Group announcements for the title, it's a no-brainer that Scream Factory is dropping theirs nearly the same time. Escape From New York was already released in the E.U. markets by Studio Canal so that's more of a question of a "when" and not an "if" Scream would update their release. But the welcome surprises on this list is Tobe Hooper's nutso sci-fi horror flick Lifeforce and The Craft.
Lifeforce was a title I'd heard grumblings about a 4K release for a couple of years now so it's nice to see a rumor become a reality. Of the four listings, Lifeforce and The Craft are the only ones actually up for pre-order albeit at the egregiously high not-yet-on-sale price point. Now we don't have final specs for any of these as of yet, but with everything breaking so quickly, expect final details in the next day or two and when they come in we'll update this article and our listings accordingly.
[UPDATE]
Scream Factory is now posting up the official announcements for each of these. As they come in, we'll be updating each title with the full list of specs and bonus features if listed.

Criterion Announces May Releases With Double Indemnity on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Posted Tue Feb 15, 2022 at 07:17 PM PST by Tom LandyThe Criterion Collection has revealed their May home video release slate that includes Billy Wilder's film-noir classic on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Of course, the headliner is Double Indemnity which will be getting the 4K/Blu-ray combo treatment on May 31st.
Has dialogue ever been more perfectly hard-boiled? Has a femme fatale ever been as deliciously evil as Barbara Stanwyck? And has 1940s Los Angeles ever looked so seductively sordid? Working with cowriter Raymond Chandler, director Billy Wilder launched himself onto the Hollywood A-list with this paragon of film-noir fatalism from James M. Cain’s pulp novel. When slick salesman Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) walks into the swank home of dissatisfied housewife Phyllis Dietrichson (Stanwyck), he intends to sell her insurance, but he winds up becoming entangled with her in a far more sinister way. Featuring scene-stealing supporting work from Edward G. Robinson and the chiaroscuro of cinematographer John F. Seitz, Double Indemnity is one of the most wickedly perverse stories ever told and the cynical standard by which all noir must be measured.

Also with a street date on the 31st is Wayne Wang's murder mystery Chan is Missing.
A mystery man, a murder, and a wad of missing cash—in his wryly offbeat breakthrough, Wayne Wang updates the ingredients of classic film noir for the streets of contemporary San Francisco’s Chinatown. When their business partner disappears with the money they had planned to use for a cab license, driver Jo (Wood Moy) and his nephew Steve (Marc Hayashi) scour the city’s back alleys, waterfronts, and Chinese restaurants to track him down. But what begins as a search for a missing man gradually turns into a far deeper and more elusive investigation into the complexities and contradictions of Chinese American identity. The first feature by an Asian American filmmaker to play widely and get mainstream critical appreciation, Chan Is Missing is a continuously fresh and surprising landmark of indie invention that playfully flips decades of cinematic stereotypes on their heads.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
• High-definition digital master, approved by director Wayne Wang, with an uncompressed monaural soundtrack
• Is Chan Still Missing?, a making-of documentary directed by Debbie Lum
• New conversations between Wang and critic Hua Hsu and Wang and filmmaker Ang Lee

Earlier in the month on the 10th comes the 1976 French thriller Mr. Klein from Alain Delon.
One of the crowning achievements of blacklisted Hollywood director Joseph Losey’s European exile, the spellbinding modernist mystery Mr. Klein puts a chilling twist on the wrong-man thriller. Alain Delon delivers a standout performance as Robert Klein, a decadent art dealer in Paris during World War II who makes a tidy profit buying up paintings from his desperate Jewish clients. As Klein searches for a Jewish man with the same name for whom he has been mistaken, he finds himself plunged into a Kafkaesque nightmare in which his identity seems to dissolve and the forces of history to close in on him. Met with considerable controversy on its release for its portrayal of the real-life wrongdoings of the Vichy government, this haunting, disturbingly beautiful film shivers with existential dread as it traces a society’s descent into fascistic fear and inhumanity.
BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
• New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack
• Interviews with critic Michel Ciment and editor Henri Lanoë
• Interviews from 1976 with director Joseph Losey and actor Alain Delon

On the 17th comes writer-director Juzo Itami's The Funeral on Blu-ray.
It’s death, Japanese style, in the rollicking and wistful first feature from maverick writer-director Juzo Itami. In the wake of her father’s sudden passing, a successful actor (Itami’s wife and frequent collaborator, Nobuko Miyamoto) and her lascivious husband (Tsutomu Yamazaki) leave Tokyo and return to her family home to oversee a traditional funeral. Over the course of three days of mourning that bring illicit escapades in the woods, a surprisingly materialistic priest (Chishu Ryu), and cinema’s most epic sandwich handoff, the tensions between public propriety and private hypocrisy are laid bare. Deftly weaving dark comedy with poignant family drama, The Funeral is a fearless satire of the clash between old and new in Japanese society in which nothing, not even the finality of death, is off-limits.
SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES
• High-definition restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
• New interviews with actors Nobuko Miyamoto and Manpei Ikeuchi
• Creative Marriages: Juzo Itami & Nobuko Miyamoto, a short program produced by the Criterion Channel
• Commercials for Ichiroku Tart by director Juzo Itami
• Trailers
• New English subtitle translation
• PLUS: An essay by author Pico Iyer and, for the Blu-ray, excerpts from Itami’s 1985 book Diary of “The Funeral” and from a 2007 remembrance of Itami by actor Tsutomu Yamazaki
1984 • 124 minutes • Color • Monaural • In Japanese with English subtitles • 1.33:1 aspect ratio
Finally on the 24th, Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala starring Sarita Choudhury and Denzel Washington will arrive on Blu-ray format.
The vibrant cultures of India, Uganda, and the American South come together in Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala, a luminous look at the complexities of love in the modern melting pot. Years after her Indian family was forced to flee their home in Uganda by the dictatorship of Idi Amin, twentysomething Mina (Sarita Choudhury) spends her days cleaning rooms in an Indian-run motel in Mississippi. When she falls for the charming Black carpet cleaner Demetrius (Denzel Washington), their passionate romance challenges the prejudices of both of their families and exposes the rifts between the region’s Indian and African American communities. Tackling thorny issues of racism, colorism, culture clash, and displacement with bighearted humor and keen insight, Nair serves up a sweet, sexy, and deeply satisfying celebration of love’s power.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES

HEAVY METAL SYNOPSIS
Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine HEAVY METAL, producer Ivan Reitman enlists the help of some of Hollywood's animation masters to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy, to whom it is inexplicably drawn, will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Richly and lavishly drawn, the vignettes of the orb's dark victories include the character voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis and a pounding soundtrack by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Devo, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Riggs, and Trust. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects, HEAVY METAL set the standard for alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not to be missed!

Film Synopsis
When charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who might be his most formidable opponent yet.
Del Toro co-wrote the enthralling film with Kim Morgan, based on William Lindsay Gresham’s novel.
