The newest addition to the AirPods lineup has been detailed.
Apple has launched pre-orders for its new AirPods Pro. The advanced wireless, in-ear headphones are set to start shipping on October 30 for $249.
"AirPods are the best-selling headphones in the world. The one-tap setup experience, incredible sound and iconic design have made them a beloved Apple product, and with AirPods Pro, we're taking the magic even further," said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "The new in-ear AirPods Pro sound amazing with Adaptive EQ, fit comfortably with flexible ear tips and have innovative Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode. We think customers are going to love this new addition to the AirPods family."
The AirPods Pro feature a new lightweight, in-ear design with three different sized ear tips for each earbud. In addition, the headphones utilize a vent system to equalize pressure and reduce discomfort, along with a sweat and water resistant construction. Active Noise Cancellation has been incorporated as well with two microphones and advanced software. This tech can remove background noise with support for continuously adapting the sound signal 200 times per second. And for users who would still prefer to hear ambient sounds, the earbuds also support switching to a Transparency mode, enabling the background environment and music playback to remain audible together.
Under the hood, the AirPods Pro are powered by a custom high dynamic range amplifier, and each earbud includes a custom high-excursion, low-distortion speaker driver with support for bass down to 20Hz. An Adaptive EQ feature is implemented as well, allowing the device to automatically adjust low-frequency and mid-frequency playback to better suit a user's ear. Finally, when it comes to battery life, the headphones are rated for up to five hours of listening time without Active Noise Cancellation or up to four and a half hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation.
