The Summer Season is here. That means massive heat waves and a cascade of new movies in theaters. It also means we get a big busy string of new disc releases. July 2024 is a whopper of a release month for 4K UHD.
Since we're just over halfway through the years, this is about when studios and indie labels start slipping out some big major new and catalog releases. We're just a few short months away from the crazy Holiday shopping season. So when we're not queuing up to see the latest new releases in theaters, chances are we're at home binging away on our latest disc buys. July tends to be a packed frame and this year is no different, so let's get into it.
This month starts fast with a full range of new releases, fan favorites, and cult classics. We're getting everything from great Comedies to Classic Westerns to Thrillers and explosive Action flicks. Some big favorites all drop this week putting an early pinch on our wallets. Usually, the month starts a bit slow, but between Criterion's new releases and KLSC moving a lot of their June slate to July, we'll need to make room on our shelves for new arrivals.
Things don't slow down much for this second week. We've got classic horror, classic anime, classic thrillers, an insane Ray Liotta, one of the most controversial new releases of the year, and one of the best summertime disaster films!
Things press the braks a little bit on the number of releases, but we get a few classic heavy hitters. Not only will we finally get all of the Rocky films in 4K but KLSC delivers a classic Horror/Sci-Fi film, a modern drama, while Ben Affleck was the bomb in I!
Rare Friday Release - July 19th 4K UHD
For the fourth Tuesday of the month, the pace picks up hard and fast. Criterion delivers two big ones, including the movie that made Tom Cruise a star. Universal finally delivers their underdog theatrical flick The Fall Guy. Sony unveils one of the greatest film noir thrillers of all time while the biggest shark franchise completes its 4K meal. Again, it's a lot and it's going to be expensive!
Talk about a mix of everything for everyone. You've got thrillers, '80s action movies, a disgusting and terrifying zombie epic, and a whole lot more. No one said this hobby was going to be cheap, but this month doesn't slow down for the rare fifth Tuesday of the month.
And that should just about do it. That's everything that's due to drop domestically on 4K for July 2024. Now as we saw last month with KLSC's 4K slate, release dates can change on a dime, so if anything shifts we'll update our listings ASAP.

When his crooked brother Charley the Gent (Rod Steiger) is brutally murdered for refusing to kill him, Terry battles to crush Friendly's underworld empire. Synopsis:
Martin Scorsese, one of the great directors of our time, directs Oscar®-winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor – 1989, My Left Foot; 2007, There Will Be Blood; 2012, Lincoln), Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder in a brilliant adaptation of Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. A ravishing romance about three affluent New Yorkers caught in a tragic love triangle, the ironically-titled story chronicles the grandeur and hypocrisy of high society in the 1870s. At the center of the film is Newland Archer (Day-Lewis), an upstanding attorney who secretly longs for a more passionate life. Engaged to the lovely but ordinary socialite May Welland (Ryder), Newland resigns himself to a life of quiet complacency. But when May’s unconventional cousin returns to New York amid social and sexual scandal, Newland risks everything for a chance at true love. The Age of Innocence is a spellbinding portrait of hidden romance and regret.

Synopsis:
Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on their own terms – is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

After enjoying a rest with the 13-Film Sony Pictures Classics 4K set, Sony is sending Tom Tykwer's iconic multiversal thriller 'Run Lola Run' to the solo-disc races. All indications are this is the same disc as before, only without ten other films... and possibly without a slipcover.
Run Lola Run is a hell of a film with a banger of a soundtrack. It looks amazing in 4K Dolby Vision and that German 5.1 mix is a beast. But, you'd only know that if you bought the 11-film Sony Pictures Classics 4K box set. Which is a great set if you wanted all of those other films. For those you didn't want the box set, well, Lola is taking another run on 4K, this time on her own! All indications for this press release tell me this is the same great disc as before. It doesn't indicate if the English and Spanish dubbed tracks will be included or not. My guess is that they will be and this is just a simple repackage without the custom slipcover - we've put in a question about that and when we get news we'll update. until then here's to 25 years of Run Lola Run!
