Rob Reiner's classic coming-of-age drama based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" will be receiving a limited edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook this winter.
Sony is preparing Stand By Me for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray limited edition SteelBook on December 5. The 1986 classic stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland.
In a small woodsy Oregon town, a group of friends -- sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O’Connell) -- are in search of a missing teenager’s body. Wanting to be heroes in each other’s and their hometown’s eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss ‘cause it’s cool and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town’s knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had. Stand By Me is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experiences of growing up. Filled with humor and suspense, Stand By Me is based on the novella ‘The Body’ by Stephen King.

We haven't heard the final HDR grade, but have made inquiries to that point. Once our listings are built we'll update this article and hopefully have some pre-order links ready for you too.

Warner Bros fights off the one-armed man to deliver one of Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones' best flicks to 4K UHD
As listings already popped up for The Fugitive in 4K Ultra HD Blur-ay and a Best Buy SteelBook last week, we already knew this was coming. Now Warner Bros. gives us the official word about Harrison Ford's turn as Richard Kimble in Andrew Davis' stylish Oscar-winning 90s thriller. I have fond memories seeing this on the big screen as a kid with my Dad and it's held up as one of the few thrillers I never tire of. The pace is excellent, performances are top-notch, and it's fun seeing so many of Davis' usual side players pop up throughout the film in various roles. Now we all get to enjoy the film in 4K with a pair of packaging options:
The Fugitive - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
The Fugitive - Best Buy 4K Ultra HD SteelBook
Of the two cover options, I'm partial to the understated custom art of the SteelBook. I would have loved just the original theatrical poster art again, but the standard edition cover just looks too busy, in my opinion. Hopefully on release day there will be plenty of SteelBooks at Best Buy. Here's what's coming with the disc:
The Fugitive Ultra HD Blu-ray disc contains the following previously released special features:
The press release doesn't indicate HDR grade or audio so we've reached out for clarification on that end.
Both the standard edition and SteelBook are up for pre-order (the SteelBook is in that dreaded "Coming Soon" mode right now), here's everything in the pre-release for more info:

The most horrific time of year is upon us...
October is scary not just because of spooky costumes and the glut of horror flicks that hit theaters and streaming, but because it's the beginning of the massive influx of major new and catalog films on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. While some people cry the end is neigh for physical media, October is always the reminder that disc-based home video entertainment is far from dead. October 2023 is no exception. If anything it's setting a new benchmark for exciting releases ahead of the big holiday shopping season. So slap on your favorite costume, mix up some corn syrup blood, and get ready for an exciting albeit expensive slate of releases.
The opening salvo of October is a blistering hit on the finances. Everything from the return of an intergalactic hunter to a movie-obsessed killer to classic science fiction are all getting first-time 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray releases. It's a heck of an exciting slate, and one that'll likely break the bank for a lot of collectors looking to upgrade.
Not to slow down to let you catch your breath, the second week of October sees a slew of first-time catalog releases on 4K, some new releases, a few double dips, and plenty of SteelBooks to consider
Middle of the month, time for a little bit of a breather. While this week isn't nearly as stacked as the pervious weeks (or the next two weeks after for that matter), there's still some great flicks in here. From killer gew to classic romances there's something for everyone. UPDATE: WB has also added the highest-grossing film of the year and one-half of the sensational Barbenheimer double feature to the release slate!
Things pick back up this week with a another big wallet-busting swath of new and catalog releases. Crazed cannibal doctors, rabid dogs, a chilly ghost tale, and a radioactive hero are but a few of the heavy hitters dropping this week.
Leave it to the last week of the month to be a true wallet-buster. Between Tom Cruise running, Harrison Ford pointing, and Hitchcock terrifying, we have a massive assortment of new releases and deep-cut catalog titles coming to 4K. It's a lot to keep up with so make some extra time in your day to watch some movies!
And that's pretty much everything due domestically on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in October. Like I said, this is a ton of content coming down the pipeline all at once and we also aim to take a crack at some imports once we get our hands on them. All of these titles are up for pre-order and ready to take up valuable shelf space in your home!
The holiday season is about to get downright creepy!
Fan favorites Renfield and Pearl score their first 4K UHD releases with fancy SteelBooks!
Thanks to German label Turbine Medien, fans of the action-packed horror comedy Renfield starring Nicolas Cage as a delightfully unhinged Dracula and Pearl starring a delightfully unhinged Mia Goth will be getting the full 4K Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos treatment this December. Firm release date hasn't been established yet, but they are for sure coming our way - and they're up for pre-order! Also fun for everyone, the artwork for both SteelBooks is fantastic - staying true to the original theatrical art and Renfield even sports a slipcover!
[UPDATE 11/9]
Turbine just updated their listings for both Pearl and Renfield steelbooks with a firm release date of November 30th! Initially, we were told "sometime in December" but hey, a few days early never hurt anyone, right? Looking things over it appears all of the specs are the same so get ready to enjoy that Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos audio to ring in your Yuletide season!
Renfield - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook
Expect Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos audio for this one along with the following bonus features:
Pearl - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook
And like Renfield Ti West's Pearl will debut with Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos audio along with these bonus features:
Now since these two are a couple months out from release, it'll be interesting to see if Turbine offers up MediaBook packaging options later down the road like they did with The Black Phone a few weeks ago. Again we don't have firm release date, but we do know they're coming in December and they are both up for pre-order! Thanks to an update on social media this morning, Turbine has set the release date for November 30th - getting ahead of all the holiday hoopla so order early and get your gift shopping done!
Happy collecting!

You can't keep a franchise in the Home Video grave for long. Resident Evil returns for a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray 6-Film SteelBook!
While fans of the franchise have been clamoring for single-title releases of the long-running Paul W.S. Anderson-helmed franchise, Sony Home Entertainment decided to go the 6-Film Collection SteelBook Dolby Vision upgrade route one last time. Since all of the films look like they're coming in packed with the same set of extras and Atmos audio tracks, the only apparent benefit would be Dolby Vision HDR over the previous HDR10 masters. Which if that's the case that's fine, but might not be enough to get folks to redip over the previous 4K Ultra HD Collection from 2020
Resident Evil - Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook Collection
