May Is A Beautiful 4K Bouquet - HDD's May 2024 4K UHD Shopping Guide
Posted Wed May 1, 2024 at 07:51 AM PDT by Matthew HartmanMay 2024 is going to be a tough month for 4K collectors. Not because there's nothing coming out, quite the opposite actually. Now that Hollywood has gotten more flicks in theaters after the respective Writers/Actors strikes, that means we have a lot of new titles and a ton of back catalog and deep cult classics coming to 2160p!
April 2024 was something of an interesting release month in that it started out pretty light, had some good big favorites to get excited for, but then saved the biggest dump of new releases and back catalog 4K titles for the very end of the month. On one hand it helped to spread out the finances early on, but that meant saving everything for the very last day of the month. May 2024 is hitting the gas hard early and isn't really letting up one week to the next - so let's dive in and see what we need to save up for:
May 2024 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping Guide
May 7th, 4K UHD Releases
It can't rain all the time! The first week of the month kicks things off pretty hard and heavy. We see one notable KLSC 4K reschedule hit the frame, another Coppola re-edit, a scream factory double feature event, and then one of the biggest and most influential comic book films of the 1990s all join the 4K format along with three very exciting concert discs.
Coming May 8th to 4K UHD
Coming May 10th to 4K UHD
May 14th, 4K UHD Releases
Not to slow things down, the second week of May sees a lovely mix of new, deep catalog, and recent favorites all getting the 4K treatment. For one disc in particular, it's a shame Warner Bros. didn't see fit to include a certain suggestive popcorn bucket! Add in one of the craziest cult classics and one of the finest westerns ever made, and we've got to start clearing some shelf space!
May 21st, 4K UHD Releases
So this frame is rather interesting. Not only are we getting some exciting new and catalog titles but we're also getting something a little different. This frame will see the first wave of Paramount's multi-format 4K + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital releases priced at the bargain rate of about $10.99. While that price is appealing, these are packed in standard DVD-sized cases, so we'll see how well they sell to the collectors market or if they help tip some SD buyers into 4K collecting.
Coming May 24th to 4K UHD
May 28th, 4K UHD Releases
Unlike April, the last frame of May is a bit of a breather. There's plenty of great stuff coming, but a large chunk of it are the standard editions of Severin's more elaborate Website exclusives and a few other smaller trinkets. KLSC in particular has some solid titles coming our way too.
And that's pretty much everything that's hitting the domestic market for 4K UHD Blu-rays in May. Obviously, some of these release dates could change and more stuff could slip in there without much fanfare or warning. If anything changes we'll update our listings and this article toot sweet. Happy Collecting!

A Miraculous December 2023 4K UHD Blu-ray Shopping Guide
Posted Sun Dec 10, 2023 at 02:38 AM PST by Matthew HartmanNow that the glut of holiday titles has subsided in the wake of Thanksgiving, collectors have to strap themselves in for another feast of 4K titles. December is a bit tricky because it's usually when studios try to calm things down a little bit but also wallop collectors with a bunch of new exciting titles that would sell great for the Holidays. The fun of this frame is just how diverse the range of titles is. We get everything from classic comedies to recent October horror flicks to the latest big-budget box-office adventure film. Or even the case of one particularly aqua-obsessed filmmaker, two more releases of Avatar! So lets get into it shall we?
December 2023 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Shopping GuideDecember 5th - 4K UHD Blu-ray Releases
Speaking of a diverse range of titles, the December 5th frame is no exception. We see one of Spielberg's first true dramatic undertakings as a filmmaker come out alongside a fifth entry to his most famous franchise (albeit one he didn't direct). Throw in some Criterion heavy hitters, new sci-fi television, and one of the biggest box office successes of all time, and you've got a packed, expensive series of flicks to consume.
December 12th - 4K UHD Blu-ray Releases
Again, for a great example of a diverse range of titles, you have a recent horror hit coming to disc after a day-and-date theatrical/streaming release. One of the funniest movies ever based on a board game. Multiple pieces of terrific thought-provoking and pulse-poinding sci-fi. A zany high-concept action film. The newest iteration of a now classic comic/cartoon franchise. Plenty of action-packed thrillers - it's a lot! To say the least, it's a lot of great stuff coming down the release chimney.
December 19th - 4K UHD Blu-ray Releases
Not sure if there's a better week than right before Christmas to drop a new 4K franchise release about demonic possession, but here we are! On top of ironically-timed horror releases, this final frame right before the big holiday sales push sees more of James Cameron's jungle cat people mixed in with Olver Stone's conspiracy theory classic mixed with some new Kino Cult mixed with a pair of Stephen King titles. It's an odd frame to say the least but there are some gems in there.
December 26th - 4K UHD Blu-ray Releases
For the final week of 2024, things quiet way down. A lot. On the 4K side, there's literally only one domestic release - but at least it's a good one! The holidays are over, shopping is done, and studios take a break before they dig in for the next year. 2024 is going to be a weird one with Best Buy exiting the physical media space, but we're expecting some good stuff to come our way.
And that's everything due for arrival this month. If there are any last-minute additions or sudden release date shifts, we'll update this article ASAP.

High-Def Digest Presents: A Mother's Day Shopping Guide
Posted Tue Apr 27, 2010 at 09:30 AM PDT by Mike AtteberyFlowers, candy, and a sappy Hallmark card always make good Mother's Day gifts, especially in a pinch, but many sons and daughters often forget movies can also warm Mom's heart, especially those with a romantic, historical, or (ssshhh!) sexy twist.
