April Showers Brings May 4K Flowers - HDD's May 2022 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping GuideWhat? Did you think that once April was over your movie budget would get some time off to recover? From a fresh new take on The World's Greatest Detective to a cursed man with a hook for a hand to two adventures with the Man With No Name - May is another stacked month for 4K Ultra HD collectors. Not that I'm complaining that all of these great hits are coming to the format, I'm just asking do they all have to come out all at once? Everyone from Warner Bros to Sony to Kino Orber Studio Classics is throwing some heavy hitters out there into the world this month. Thankfully we get a little breathing room at the start of the month, but things quickly pick up and it becomes reals. Do people still say reals? Or am I just old? Anyway... let's dig in High-Def Digest's May 2022 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping Guide May The Third - 2022 the insanity begins quietly... Thankfully the first week of the month starts off mostly on the quiet side with Pixar bringing their latest of their best films to 4K (after an unfortunately Disney+ only premier). After that, Sony starts to fix a serious wrong about a lack of Joe Carnahan films on 4K. Smokin’ Aces - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Smokin’ Aces - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook Turning Red - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Turning Red - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook If those editions aren't your liking - there's a Target Exclusive and a Walmart Exclusive May the 10th - things get a little more intense. So this is where the slate picks up a lot of steam. We're getting another semi-watchable-but-still-missed-the-boat video game movie with solo releases of a particular dinosaur franchise capped off with a box set AND single title editions from the master of suspense. A little old, a little new, there's a lot to dig through Uncharted - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Uncharted - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection vol 2 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Also available will be solo releases of: Saboteur Shadow of a Doubt The Trouble with Harry Marnie Family Plot In the pile of no new but finally getting solo releases - all of the previously released Jurassic Park trilogy films and the first Jurassic World film are getting solo releases outside of the old 25th Anniversary Collection set. We haven't heard anything to suggest there will be anything new regarding video transfers, audio tracks, or bonus features. We imagine something like that would happen when Jurassic World: Dominion is on its way out of theaters. There's also a new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom edition coming, but again that's likely just a repackage to thematically fit the new cover design for the other films. Jurassic Park The Lost World: Jurassic Park Jurassic Park III Jurassic World Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom May 17th... things heat up a lot This third week of may feels big on fan favorites, cult classics, and one of the greatest westerns ever filmed. Between Paramount and Scream Factory, a lot of my extra spending $$$ burns up this week. Escape From New York - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Infinite - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Craft Collector’s Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Beverly Hills Cop II - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Hell or High Water - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook May 24th - the wallet starts to cough and sputter It'd be one thing if we only had to work with one of the greatest recent comic book movies made in the last decade to deal with, but there are some heavy, heavy hitters running this month with big knockout blows from Scream Factory, Showtime, Arrow, and Magnet all bringing some slick flicks to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. If that wasn't enough you have some more solo Jack Ryan 4Ks breaking out from Paramount's big box set from a couple of years ago. The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Walmart Giftset Wild Things - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Limited Edition Wild Things - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Deluxe Limited Edition Wild Things - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook Malignant - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Lifeforce Collector’s Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Ray Donovan The Movie - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Candyman Collector’s Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Patriot Games - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Sum of All Fears - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Burning Sea - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray May 31st - just when you thought it was over... This final week of May is pretty much the best of the best of the best all hitting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. You get one of the best gangster movies ever made. You get two of the best westerns ever made. One of the absolute best thrillers ever made. One of the best historical musicals ever made. And you're also getting both entries in one of the best recent horror/comedy franchises all on 4K. May was already an exhausting month but this final frame is going to burn holes in the wallet. Happy Death Day - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Happy Death Day 2 U - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Untouchables - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray The Untouchables - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook Double Indemnity - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray A Fistful of Dollars - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray For A Few Dollars More - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray 1776: 50th Anniversary Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray And that is everything we've got coming our way domestically for May 2022. This is going to be an exhausting month for sure and we're going to crank through these for reviews as fast as we can. We're also going to try and cover some of the foreign import releases as they come in as well - both Turbine's Candyman Mediabook and Arrow's release of Candyman are on our hit lists. Turbine also now has a new 4K of Pitch Black we hope to cover ASAP. It's always dodgy with the imports because we have to wait for things to ship and clear customs and that can take much longer than desired - but that'll just mean we can focus on this HUGE list of upcoming titles. To that point - thank you for all of your Pre-orders. They really do go a long way towards keeping our little game going. Thanks again and until next month - happy collecting!Posted Mon May 2, 2022 at 07:44 AM PDT by: -

Not only will you get the film presented in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR (and HDR10), Turbine is sweetening the deal with a brand new exclusive Atmos audio mix! Thor: Love And Thunder Teaser Trailer! This July Not Every God Has Plan! If you need a break from doing your taxes or trying to find a way to suitably spend that return check (hopefully no one owes anything this year), take a break and enjoy the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder! The film picks up where Avengers: End Game left off with everyone's favorite Asgardian Thor (Chris Hemsworth) running off into space with Starlord (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In this brief teaser trailer, we get to see Thor get back into Super Hero Shape as he moves onto an existential quest to figure out what to do with himself. Oh yeah, and we get a nice tease of Natalie Portman at the end that I won't spoil here. The film also stars Christian Bale as the villain Gorr the God Butcher with Taika Waititi returning to co-write and direct. Barring any sort of pandemic related release hiccup - Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive in theaters July 8th, 2022.Posted Mon Apr 18, 2022 at 08:02 AM PDT by: -
Matt Reeves' The Batman Starring Robert Pattinson Delivers Vengeance Digital/HBO Max April 18th - 4K UHD & Blu-ray May 24thThe biggest film of 2022 (so far) and one of the best comic book movies ever made, The Batman comes home to Digital April 18th and 4K UHD and Blu-ray Disc May 24th, 2022 Just this morning we posted on social about how The Batman was now available for pre-order from Best Buy due to hit store shelves May 24th. Now Warner Bros. makes it official. Premier digital retailers like iTunes and Vudu should see The Batman arrive for purchase on April 18th - the same day it arrives on HBO Max. As usual, Disc Collectors will have to sit tight a few more weeks until May 24th to get their hands on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray copies. The cool thing is you'll have some options with some exciting store exclusives for picking this one up! Personally, after three visits to IMAX, I'm just glad to see this coming home sooner rather than later! The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Standard Release The Batman - Blu-ray The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook Now here's where things get interesting. Walmart is showing a listing for a pretty snazzy deluxe Gift Set option with three discs. All artwork we've seen for other editions and the official press release indicate a 2-Disc release and nothing in Walmart's listing tells us what is on that third disc yet. We've made inquiries so hopefully, we'll find out soon what is on that third disc that's clearly labeled "bonus features" The Batman - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Walmart Exclusive Gift Set There is also a listing for a Target Exclusive Blu-ray - but it looks like the standard artwork and there's nothing to indicate what the exclusive is. When we find out we'll create a listing and add that to this roster of releases. Right now we don't quite have full specs for the 4K Ultra HD - we know that it will have Atmos Audio (as will the Blu-ray) but we have not heard back yet about HDR grade so count on base HDR10 for now. As soon as we know more we'll update our listings and this article. Until then, you can check out Warner Bros. full press release below. Neil Marshall's horror/action flick Dog Soldiers, Cat People, and Tobe Hooper's horror gem The Funhouse are all making the transition to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray this June. Scream Factory quietly slipped them up onto their Scream Factory shop before announcing them on social media - and you can pre-order right now! So to that point, we know these discs are coming, we know bonus features, but we don't yet have the final word on HDR grading or audio specs - but if past is prologue then expect Dolby Vision and likely an Atmos audio mix for a couple of these. As we learn more we'll update our listings and this article! Dog Soldiers Collector's Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-rayJune 14th, 2022 A group of soldiers dispatched to the Scottish Highlands on special training maneuvers face their biggest fears after they run into Captain Ryan – the only survivor of a Special Ops team that was literally torn to pieces. Ryan refuses to disclose his mission even though whoever attacked his men might be hungry for seconds. Help arrives in the form of a local woman who shelters them in a deserted farmhouse deep in the forest ... but when they realize that they are surrounded by a pack of blood-lusting werewolves, it's apparent their nightmare has just begun! From Neil Marshall, the director of The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion and episodes of Game Of Thrones, comes this terrifying thriller starring Kevin McKidd (Rome, Trainspotting), Sean Pertwee (Gotham, Event Horizon), Emma Cleasby (Doomsday) and Liam Cunningham (Game Of Thrones). On her first date with Buzz (Cooper Huckabee, True Blood), Amy (Elizabeth Berridge, Amadeus) disobeys her father and goes to the carnival with Richie (Miles Chapin, Hair) and Liz (Largo Woodruff, The Ladies Club) ... but their first date may end up as their last. After witnessing a murder, the four terrified teens are trapped in the maze of the Funhouse and stalked by a real monster: a horribly deformed killer who lurks among the freakish exhibits to butcher them one by one! Also starring Sylvia Miles (Midnight Cowboy) and Kevin Conway (Invincible) in three roles, The Funhouse features special makeup designs by the ingenious Rick Baker (An American Werewolf In London, Ed Wood). Cat People (1982) Collector's Edition - 4K Ultra HD Blu-rayJune 28th, 2022 A remake of the 1942 Jacques Tourneur horror/noir classic, Cat People stars Nastassja Kinski as Irena, a beautiful young woman who discovers love for the first time only to find that the experience brings tragic consequences. The tremendous passion of this woman's first romantic love is so strong, however, it bypasses the chaos around her – including the extraordinary demands of her brother (Malcolm McDowell, A Clockwork Orange) – as it pushes her on to her own bizarre destiny. Directed by Paul Schrader (Hardcore, American Gigolo, Affliction), this erotic fantasy about the passion and terror surrounding this first love also stars John Heard (Awakenings), Annette O'Toole (48 Hrs.), Ruby Dee (Do The Right Thing) and Lynn Lowry (Shivers). And that's all we know for now. As I said at the outset, this is breaking news and full details haven't come from Scream Factory, but we expect that to change soon. It's Scream Factory so you can expect some custom artwork probably and a ton of new and archival bonus features. As we get those details we'll update our listings and this article.Posted Mon Apr 4, 2022 at 07:11 AM PDT by: -

The Criterion Collection Bringing Tough Guy Classic Action Flick Road House Starring Patrick Swayze Dated and Detailed For 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray July 2022The manliest film of the 80s, Road House starring Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, and Sam Elliot is coming to the Criterion Collection with a brand new 4K Restoration with Atmos Audio and tons of new and archival bonus features! In 1989 Rowdy Herrington directed the ultimate 1980s tough-guy action movie Road House. Starring Patrick Swayze, the film plays as a classic western with the last honest man in a tough trade coming to town to clean out the wicked men who are strangling the good people. Trade out a western town and a corrupt sheriff for a saloon and a businessman and you have yourself the makings of a modern genre-bending classic - only it’s so completely ridiculous! From the bizarre dialog to the over-the-top characters, Road House is nonstop entertainment. This may be a weird addition for Criterion, but I for one appreciate they’re giving this highly entertaining film a run with a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with a new Dolby Atmos audio mix! Those exploding beer bottles should sound AMAZING! Road House - Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Pre-orders aren't yet live for this one but as soon as they're up we'll let you know!
