Trailer, and details about unlockable features within!
After months of waiting for Nintendo to make good on their promises, the wait is over: Shovel Knight has his own amiibo, the first amiibo for a character from an indie developer. And also as promised, the amiibo unlocks some serious content for the game on both WiiU and 3DS.
New character customization options, relics, and abilities will be added to the game, which will be transferable between both systems. In addition, the WiiU gets an exclusive co-op mode, which adds brand new two-player moves to the Knight's arsenal, and both knights will be able to customize at will. Challenge stages will be unlocked on both systems, with 5 stages to be played solo, and 5 specifically for co-op, with all the new relics available for use in each of them. But talk's cheap: have a look at the new trailer they put together for the game showing off all the new features.
The amiibo will cost you 15 Euros, 10.99 in Britain, and $12.99 here in the states. It'll be available next Friday, December 11th in Europe, and January 8th in North America. To answer your next question, yes, Yacht Club is very aware American fans will have to wait till after Christmas, but their logic is sound. Basically, it's to avoid the usual thing that happens when a new amiibo comes out.
"It was an agonizing decision, as production difficulties forced us to choose between rushing to ship a tiny, insufficient number of amiibo units before Christmas, or ship a good healthy supply of stock to North America just after Christmas. We’ve received hundreds of emails bemoaning the difficulty in finding some of your favorite amiibo, racing for a pre-order window, issues with scalpers, having trouble unlocking the new features you want to play; so, we made the decision to launch the amiibo in January so there would be enough units available. Hopefully, this later date will make buying a Shovel Knight amiibo easy and fair for everyone. "
