Video Game Releases October 12 – 18: 'The Evil Within,' 'Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!,' & More
The return of survival horror.
In the culture of video games, it seems like not a day goes by without some kind of appreciative statement about the original 'Resident Evil.' But with so many pretenders, will Shinji Mikami's 'The Evil Within' prove to be a worthy successor? To find out for sure, players will need to guide Detective Sebastian Castellanos through one messed up world.
It seems that after the first two mega hits of the 'Borderlands' franchise, they one way to go was to the moon with 'Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!' Whether it's the zany cast of characters and vault hunters or the crazy skills and moon gravity of this packed entry, 'The Pre-Sequel' looks so fun, it's no wonder Xbox One and PS4 owners are ticked to not be getting a version.
Square Enix is at it again, taking a low-key last-gen hit, giving it an HD retreatment, set of gameplay tweaks, DLC, and releasing it as a 'Definitive Edition.' It's hard to blame the publisher though, as 'Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition' gives tons of new players an opportunity to play the popular open world Hong Kong undercover game with all the bells and whistles. (Check out the PS4 review here, and the Xbox One review here.)
There's no doubt that the PlayStation TV is a less than perfect device. It carries many of the limitations of the Vita, like Stereo only sound, and really expensive memory cards. Nevertheless, it can play some entertainment apps (Netflix, cough), Vita, PSP (digital) and PSOne (digital) classic software, PlayStation Now (PS3 titles), and Remote Play with the PS4. That's pretty darn unique in terms of little set-top boxes.
