Sony showed off the final Consumer version of the PlayStation VR headset. The visor style headset contains the same tech specs of the recent prototypes (including the CES 2016 demos).
The headset features a OLED 5.7" screen, with 1920 x 1080p RGB running at 120hz.
The headset uses 9 LEDs for a 360 degree tracking field and displays a field of view of 100 degrees. And this is with latency of less than 18ms.
The headset works with the DualShock 4, PS Move, and the PS Camera, which are not included. The headset also supports 3D audio.
The release window is set for October 2016 with a price of $499 (€399/£349/¥44,980).
Naturally, the headset requires a PS4 to function. Even so, the $399 price, which matches the launch price of the PS4, speaks volumes about how Sony expects to achieve adoption of PlayStation VR. Sony has been working with 230 developers to get content ready and t oget feedback on the development of the headset. Already, Sony has announced that 'Star Wars: Battlefront' will have content that is exclusive to PlayStation VR (a stand alone 'Battlefront' experience in VR), and that will come as part of a planned 50 launch window games. All PlayStation VR headset owners will be able to download the Playroom VR, which includes six family-friendly games. PlayStion VR will also offer a cinematic mode which will work with all current PS4 software, and the headset's release with see an update of the PS4's media player.
