Real PC support inbound.
Developer Treyarch has a proven history of fostering a special PC experience for games like 'World at War.' Announced today, 'Call of Duty: Black Ops III' will eventually have a robust set of PC tools. This support is in the works with a planned March 2016 closed Alpha date.
The goal right now, according to Treyarch, is to let players create mods and maps which can be ran on unranked dedicated servers (hosted by the community). There is also a plan for an unranked server browser to facilitate this experience. Although everything comes with a caveat of still in development, it does appear that maps, mods and personal unranked servers will be a thing in 'Black Ops III' on the PC in 2016.
Waiting for these features is not ideal; however, they ought to make the PC version have a long second life in the community.
In addition to the Closed Alpha, an Open Beta is also planned. Expect more updates over the next five months.
