Check back in two weeks.
After what seems like ages, Nintendo is finally ready to dip a toe into the world of iOS and Android apps. This first app, 'Miitomo,' is set to launch in March in North America, but in a move that should be monitored by all current and potential Nintendo fans, Nintendo will launch a new Nintendo Account service.
In two weeks on February 17th, Nintendo will begin accepting a pre-registration for 'Miimoto.' This pre-registration will be done using either an existing email, social media account, or Nintendo Network ID, and will involve the new Nintendo Account. Nintendo is so keep on this two-for-one 'Miimoto'/Nintendo Account sign-up that anyone who signs up between February 17th (when the process will be down to crazy demand) and the launch of 'Miimoto' will get a special bonus in 'Miimoto.'
This new Nintendo Account will tie into the My Nintendo program, which as described as "more than a traditional rewards program.' 'Miimoto' will include My Nintendo support as a product enhancement.
'Miimoto' is the first of approximately five smart applications planned by the big N to be released by the end of March 2017.
From Nintendo,
Miitomo is a social experience that uses Nintendo’s Mii characters, which first debuted on the Wii console, to engage friends in a lighthearted and welcoming environment. Users can spark fun conversations and learn more about each other by answering questions such as “What song has been stuck in your head lately?”, “Do you believe in aliens?”, or even “If you saw a nose hair sticking out of your friend’s nose, what would you do?” Users can also easily take and share photos featuring their Mii with the Miifoto feature. Nintendo’s new My Nintendo rewards program will launch alongside Miitomo in March, and will be able to connect with the app.
While the app development is the stuff to resonate through the industry on a trade press level, the account possibilities, ought to lead to a proper idea of digital ownership (as opposed to just device-tied ownership that Nintendo offers now). That move could come with the debut of a new platform.
