Some cross-globe collaboration.
'Death Stranding,' Hideo Kojima's upcoming title, is built using developer Guerrilla Games' proprietary game engine, now rebranded as Decima.
During a panel at PlayStation Experience 2016, Kojima and Guerrilla Games' Hermen Hulst spoke about this partnership, which involved Guerrilla handing Kojima the source code to the engine that they have used to make games like the upcoming 'Horizon Zero Dawn.' The engine has been rebranded as Decima, named after both a Greek goddess of childbirth and a 17th-century Japanese port that facilitated trade with Dutch traders, fitting for a collaboration between Kojima and the Amsterdam-based Guerrilla.
According to PS4 lead architect Mark Cerny, Kojima was in the market for an engine for his next game after losing access to the Fox Engine of the 'Metal Gear Solid' series following his split with Konami. Cerny led the search for a partner, resulting in the partnership with Guerrilla.
