Nintendo president calls cutting support "inefficient".
Well, if Nintendo had a responsibility to reassure anyone that the time spent building up the WiiU was time well spent, it'd be the shareholders, and that's apparently just what Nintendo president Satoru iwata did when faced with the question at their annual meeting about whether Nintendo was planning to better-deal the WiiU the second the NX drops.
"When NX is launched, there already will be a certain volume of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U hardware widely existing in the market, so from a software business perspective, it would be highly inefficient to stop releasing titles for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U right after the launch of NX. Therefore, while we are preparing NX for the future, we are discussing within our internal development teams as well as with the second-party developers we co-develop software with and also with third-party software publishers about how to continue creating software for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS."
The part that should raise a few question marks is the fact that the original question was solely about the WiiU, but Iwata made a point to toss the 3DS in there as well, which, with 50 million of the things floating around in the world, nobody was worried about. Given Nintendo is gradually slouching towards mobile, makes one wonder if the NX is gonna try serving two masters at once. Course, not like we'll find out anytime soon, given Iwata is impressively tight lipped about the system's details otherwise.
