New DTS content and device features have been revealed.
DTS has announced the release of the first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray titles to include IMAX Enhanced support. In addition, the company has expanded Works with Alexa support to more Play-Fi devices and regions around the world.
The first IMAX Enhanced 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays include the documentary films A Beautiful Planet and Journey to the South Pacific. IMAX Enhanced discs use a proprietary post-production process and an advanced algorithm to provide high-quality 4K HDR images through the accurate reduction of noise and grain under the filmmaker's supervision. Likewise, IMAX Enhanced titles also use a special variant of the DTS:X codec for immersive audio with specific adjustments for the home theater based on how the IMAX theatrical sound system operates.
In addition, special IMAX Enhanced modes will also be integrated into IMAX Enhanced certified audio and video components -- including select receivers from Denon and Marantz, and projectors from Sony -- ensuring optimized playback.
Meanwhile, beyond IMAX Enhanced, DTS has also announced an expansion of Works with Alexa support for DTS Play-Fi products. As part of the update, Works with Alexa support is now available for compatible devices in France, Canada, Australia, Japan and India. Likewise, the feature is also now available on new products from MartinLogan, Paradigm, and Anthem.
With the "Works with Amazon Alexa" feature for compatible DTS Play-Fi products, users can control audio playback from another room via spoken commands through an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Show, or other Alexa device. Customers just need to link an Amazon account to their compatible DTS Play-Fi product. One linked, Alexa will recognize the speaker by name and users can begin to play, adjust volume, skip tracks forward, mute, pause, stop, and more with their voice.
Here's a full rundown of newly certified DTS Play-Fi Works with Alexa devices:
Outside of Alexa support for select models, DTS Play-Fit tech enables customers to wirelessly play high quality lossless music from smartphones and tablets over an existing Wi-Fi network throughout the home. The tech can synchronize playback of a single source to multiple speakers; can stream different sources to different speakers simultaneously from the same mobile device; and can support individual music streams to separate speakers from different devices at the same time. Likewise, Play-Fi is not brand exclusive. This means that Play-Fi audio products from different manufacturers can actually work together seamlessly.
