The X Trilogy Concludes with Ty West and Mia Goth's 'MaXXXine' on 4K UHD & Blu-ray October 8th!Ty West and Mia Goth's 80s-infused horror trilogy capper MaXXXine brings the bloody carnage home to 4K UHD and Blu-ray from Lionsgate. Unlike X and Pearl, we actually get a 4K disc right out of the gate featuring Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos audio. You gotta love it when lightning strikes and someone manages to capture that bolt of inspiration and bottle it. Ty West and Mia Goth struck Horror fans hard with the back-to-back punch of X and Pearl. At long last the wait for MaXXXine is over. My initial reaction to seeing the film was muted, almost disappointed, but after a second run I clicked with the kitschy 80s glitz and glam of Hollywood and its seedy underbelly. Now it's coming to home video and we can take another stab at this concluding chapter. Thankfully this time we won't have to import it from Germany to get a 4K disc - but to be honest if Capelight or Turbine offer a Mediabook 4K, I'd be hard-pressed not to grab it just for the sake that's how I own the other two films (gotta have uniformity in the franchise, you know?) Here's what's coming our way: MaXXXine - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray MaXXXine - Blu-ray And here's a look at the Walmart-Exclusive Blu-ray (why a Blu-ray exclusive is beyond me but it is) MaXXXine - Walmart Exclusive Blu-ray Pre-orders are live for all three domestic editions. We'll keep our eyes open on the foreign markets for any notable editions there. I also wouldn't put it past A24 doing their own store-exclusive 4K Trilogy set, but we'll see what comes. Here's all of the gory details OFFICIAL SYNOPSISIn 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. It's A 4K Shyamalan Halloween with 'The Sixth Sense' and 'Signs' on 4K UHD October 22ndRemember when M. Night Shyamalan was churning out one high-concept box office hit after another? It may seem like a long time ago, but his earliest films remain his best - and now The Sixth Sense and Signs are coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray on October 22nd! I was just beginning to wonder if we'd heard the last of the big October spooky season Halloween horror titles for 2024. Not that I was complaining about what was previously announced, but the news that Signs and The Sixth Sense will be coming to 4K after languishing on ancient Blu-ray discs is a very welcome update! According to the Press release, both films have been fully restored for 4K in HDR (they didn't specify grade, so presumably HDR10 only), but the great news is both films will drop on BD-100 discs - an elusive feature for Disney-owned titles. Both films will sport DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks, no Atmos upgrades, and we don't have details for bonus features, but these are very exciting releases timed to drop just a couple of weeks before Shyamalan's latest thriller Trap is due to drop on disc! The Sixth Sense - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Hollywood superstar Bruce Willis brings a powerful presence to an edge-of-your-seat thriller from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (Oscar®-nominee for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director) that critics are calling one of the greatest ghost stories ever filmed. When Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Willis), a distinguished child psychologist, meets Cole Sear (Oscar® -nominee Haley Joel Osment, Best Supporting Actor), a frightened, confused, eight-year-old, Dr. Crowe is completely unprepared to face the truth of what haunts Cole. With a riveting intensity you'll find thoroughly chilling, the discovery of Cole's incredible sixth sense leads them to mysterious places with unforgettable consequences!Product SpecificationsStreet DateDigital: August 27, 2024Physical: October 22, 2024 Product SKUsDigital: 4K UHDPhysical: 4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital Code (US), 4K UHD + Blu-ray (CA) Total Run TimeApprox. 107 minutes Aspect RatioPhysical: 1.85:1 Disc Size4K UHD Blu-ray: 100GBBlu-ray: 50GB U.S. Audio4K Ultra HD: English 5.1 DTS-HDMA and 2.0 Dolby Digital Descriptive Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish 2.0 Dolby DigitalBlu-ray: English 5.1 Uncompressed (48 kHz/16-bit), English And French 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish 2.0 Dolby Digital U.S. Subtitles4K Ultra HD: English SDH, Spanish, FrenchBlu-ray: English SDH, Spanish, French Signs - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray From writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, comes the story of the Hess family in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, who wake up one morning to find a 500-foot crop circle in their backyard. Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family are told extraterrestrials are responsible for the sign in their field. They watch, with growing dread, the news of crop circles being found all over the world. SIGNS is the emotional story of one family on one farm as they encounter the terrifying last moments of life as the world is being invaded. Give Thanks for The Criterion Collection's November Bounty of 4K UHD & Blu-ray ReleasesThe Criterion Collection's November wave of 4K UHD and Blu-ray titles have just been revealed. The titles this batch include: William Wyler's Funny Girl on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, Peter Bogdanovich's Paper Moon on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, Howard Hawks' Scarface on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, PLUS Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, and Ishiro Honda's Godzilla all on 4K UHD Blu-ray. Funny Girl - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Witness the birth of a movie star as Barbra Streisand makes a screen debut for the ages in this musical spectacular. From humor to pathos, she hits every note as popular 1920s singer-comedian Fanny Brice, a young Jewish New Yorker whose spirit and supernova talent propel her to fame in the Ziegfeld Follies, but whose devotion to an unreliable gambler (a charismatic Omar Sharif) brings drama and heartbreak into her life. Adapted from a hit Broadway show and directed by Hollywood master William Wyler, Funny Girl hits emotional highs in unforgettable performances of songs like “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade”—moments that won Streisand one of the most richly deserved Best Actress awards in Oscar history. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES 4K digital restoration, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features New audio interview with actor Barbra Streisand New conversation between director William Wyler’s son David and author Alicia Malone Directed by William Wyler (1986), a documentary on Wyler’s life and career Archival interview with actor Omar Sharif Deleted scene featuring Streisand and Sharif Featurettes from the original theatrical release English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by author and film critic Michael KoreskyCover based on an original theatrical poster Check out the Blu-ray here. Paper Moon - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Maverick director Peter Bogdanovich affectionately recreates the world of the 1930s Dust Bowl in this beloved, briskly entertaining chronicle of one of cinema’s unlikeliest crime sprees. Real-life father and daughter Ryan and Tatum O’Neal (who became the youngest-ever Oscar winner for her spark-plug performance) play off each other with almost musical agility as a Bible-hawking con man and the precocious, recently orphaned tomboy who falls into his care—and soon rivals her newfound father figure’s skill as a swindler. With period-perfect detail, glowing monochrome imagery by cinematographer László Kovács, and a memorable supporting cast (including the inimitable Madeline Kahn), Paper Moon is a witty, loving portrait of two natural-born hustlers on a road trip through Depression-era America. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Audio commentary featuring director Peter Bogdanovich Introduction to the film by Bogdanovich New video essay by Bogdanovich biographer Peter Tonguette Three-part making-of documentary featuring Bogdanovich, production designer Polly Platt, associate producer Frank Marshall, and cinematographer László Kovács Archival interview with Platt Excerpts from a 1973 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson featuring Bogdanovich and actors Ryan and Tatum O’Neal Trailer English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by critic Mark HarrisNew cover by Raphael Geroni View the Blu-ray details here. Scarface - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Blazing across the screen in a spray of bullets, the gangster-film sensation Scarface helped set the standard for the genre for decades to come. Swaggering, scary, and unexpectedly charming, Paul Muni gives an iconic portrayal of criminal sociopathy as Tony Camonte, the ruthless, machine-gun-toting mobster who rises through the ranks of a bootlegging empire atop an ever-increasing body count, but whose possessive relationship with his wild-child sister (Ann Dvorak) threatens to be his undoing. With rat-a-tat command of editing and dialogue, and his trademark panache, director Howard Hawks creates an unstoppable sense of dynamism while pushing on-screen violence to new heights of brutality. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Alternate ending, from the censored version of the film New conversation between author Megan Abbott and actor Bill Hader New interview with film scholar Lea Jacobs on director Howard Hawks’s innovative use of sound and editing English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by critic Imogen Sara SmithNew cover by Mark Chiarello Check out the Blu-ray here. The Shape of Water - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Cinema’s great modern mythmaker Guillermo del Toro uses the hallmarks of classic horror and fantasy to tell a strange and sublime fable about outsiderhood, connection, and love’s transcendence. An ineffably touching Sally Hawkins plays Elisa, a mute janitor at a top-secret government laboratory who finds herself drawn to the facility’s newest research subject: a humanoid amphibian—for whom she is soon risking everything, amid the stifling conformity of 1960s America. A triumph of visual imagination that combines elements of sci-fi, noir, and the golden-age musical, this swooning cinematic dreamscape—winner of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director—is a monster movie with a human heart. 'Inside Out 2' Brings Joy to Blu-ray and 4K UHD Limited Edition SteelBook on September 10The Disney/Pixar animated comedy sequel Inside Out 2 will be getting a Blu-ray and 4K UHD Collectible SteelBook on September 10. Digital will arrive on August 20. Pixar's top-grossing box office smash of all time worldwide has been hailed by critics as “absolute perfection, hilarious” (Jazz Tangcay, Variety) and “an unforgettable experience” (Landon Johnson, Awards Watch) and the home video release is packed with exclusive content featuring an all-new documentary, an alternative opening, deleted scenes and much more. Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Maya Hawke lends her voice to Anxiety, alongside Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. Directed by Kelsey Mann and produced by Mark Nielsen. Inside Out 2 - 4K UHD Limited Edition SteelBook Inside Out 2 - Blu-ray Bonus Features New Emotions – With Riley's imminent puberty, the story of Inside Out 2 always suggested that there would be a party of new emotions complicating Riley's world—and throwing a wrench into Joy's hard-won stability. But exactly what those new emotions could be was a big question mark. Casting the new emotions in Riley’s mind was a fun exploration into the shifting mindset of a teenager, and was also informed by some of the discarded scenes and characters from the original film. In this documentary we’ll discuss that process of creating Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy—from narrowing them down from a long list of possible emotions, to the design, animation, and voicing of these new, hilarious, and strangely recognizable characters. Unlocking the Vault – In a kind of visual commentary, a group of central creatives watch and discuss the scene “The Vault.” As they stop and start—and refer to various IP versions of the scene—we’ll hear about the inspiration for Riley’s repressed memories like Bloofy and Lance Slashblade, the development of the scene in Story, and the technical challenges of creating 2D characters that exist in the CG world of Riley’s mind. Deleted Scenes Cold Open – In this alternate opening, a now 13-year-old Riley awkwardly fumbles her way through an original song she wrote for a school audition. Broken Joy – After momentarily being unable to drive the console, Joy worries that she might be starting to malfunction. Pool Party – After Riley tries too hard to be fun at an older teen’s party – resulting in utter embarrassment – her “Anxiety” becomes “Self-Loathing” who then ousts our hero emotions from headquarters. Puberty Park – After seeing their faces printed on “wanted posters,” Joy and the others rogue emotions race through a puberty-themed amusement park while being chased by mind worker cops. Shame Spiral – At a lock-in with some cool, older girls, Riley and friends play a game of “Never Have I Ever” that goes a bit too far – wreaking havoc in Riley’s mind.
