The Plex media server platform now offers Alexa voice control.
Plex has announced the addition of Amazon Alexa voice control. With the new upgrade, Plex users with a supported Alexa device can now use their voice to control playback on their Plex clients.
With Amazon Alexa voice control for Plex, customers with an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, Amazon Fire TV, or Fire tablet can now access and control their Plex media through voice commands. To begin, users simply need to tell Alexa to enable the Plex skill. From there, customers can link their Plex account and then ask Alexa to "open Plex." Once opened, users can ask Alexa to play whatever media they like through any of their players with voice commands -- no remote control required! In addition, customers can ask for suggestions and recommendations, "ask Plex what's On Deck," and more. With that said, music from Plex will not be able to play directly on an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Amazon Tap just yet, but Plex hopes to add this feature in the future.
The Plex media server platform allows users to sort and stream their video, music, and picture collections across various devices and displays. Beyond Plex, DISH also recently announced plans to add Alexa compatibility to its Hopper 3 DVR. With Alexa support, DISH users will be able to voice control their set-top boxes through a paired Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. Alexa support is expected to arrive on DISH's Hopper 3 DVRs during the first half of this year.
