Two worlds, one movie tie-in.
The Transformers games series has certainly seen its ups and downs in the past couple of years. Unsurprisingly, those downs happen to coincide with movie tie-ins, or the games released in close enough proximity to a movie to be considered almost promotional material in itself. Coinciding with the high points have always been developer High Moon Studios.
With those two things in mind, 'Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark' doesn't have a lot going for it. The new footage may not relieve anxieties for the release.
From developer Edge of Reality and with a release date mirroring that of Michael Bay's 'Transformers: Age of Extinction,' 'Rise of the Dark Spark' seems determined to recycle the best parts of High Moon Studio's games, most notably the multi-transformer behemoth Bruticus as a playable character and the overall familiar visual style.
That said, the new trailer introduces a playable character unseen in the series thus far. Drift, a former Decepticon out to atone for the mistakes of his past, has got an undeniably cool look. The main hook for the game, though, is the clashing of two worlds, Cybertron and Earth, and the matching versions of Optimus Prime who lead the charge together. At the very least, lovers of 'Transofmers' lore should get a kick out of that. Also, the excellent, wave-based Escalation mode is confirmed to make a return.
'Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark' is set for a June 24 release for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS and PC.
