Pillars of Eternity News

The return of cRPGs.

Once upon a time games like 'Baldur's Gate' lead the charge of PC games that enveloped the player in a way that only some PC games can. Obsidian, developer of RPGs like 'Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II' 'Fall Out: New Vegas,' and 'South Park: the Stick of Truth,' has taken to the past, to the days of 'Icewind Dale' and gone to the fans for the funds, all of this in the name of making 'Pillars of Eternity' a cRPG reality.

Tomorrow, following a huge Kickstarter and years of careful fan measured development, 'Pillars of Eternity' will hit the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms like a gift from the RPG gods. This is a game whose crowd-funding saved a storied developer, and with Paradox Interactive on as a publishing distributor, 'Pillars of Eternity' is set to challenge the safe constraints indulged in by many modern RPGs. What that means is controlling a party of built out of eleven classes and six races, and in turn facing a world packed full of treasure, monsters, mysteries, but crucially, different ways to approach each situation.

In one example given by Obsidian, players could assault a castle, try to talk their way in, try sneak through, or else undertake a trip through the plumbing. Obsidian even showed a party summoning some 24 skeletons and savaging the castle's defenders.

'Pillars of Eternity' is available to order right now for $44.99 ahead of the March 26th release.
