Sometimes it takes a smuggler to create a video game about soldiers who catch smugglers.
A new video for 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands' introduces fans to the history of the 'Ghost Recon' franchise before talking about the hands-on research that is going into the upcoming open-world shooter.
Members of Red Storm Entertainment, the developers behind the original 'Ghost Recon,' start off the video by describing the original idea behind the franchise: replacing linear levels and run-and-gun tactics with open maps that force players to think strategically. The same idea, they say, is driving 'Ghost Recon Wildlands,' with one developer even saying that 'Wildlands' looks like the kind of game that the studio originally wanted to create.
The video then transitions into the kind of military research that has helped the 'Wildlands' development process. Developers took trips to Bolivia, the game's setting, and interacted with professionals and smugglers involved in the drug trade, the basis of the game's plot, to try to create a more authentic world for 'Wildlands.'
Because it's still deep in production, having only been announced at this year's E3, 'Wildlands' hasn't received the same kind of marketing attention as other Tom Clancy titles closer to release like 'Rainbow Six Siege' and 'The Division,' but this video should give interested players an early idea of this open-world shooter's personality.
