Nintendo's beloved plumber is set to finally make his iOS debut next month, so it's time to get acquainted with 'Super Mario Run.' The iOS title will be a free download on December 15th, as players can "try elements of the game's three modes." Those who like what they see in the free trial will want to purchase the game for $9.99. This is the only money Nintendo will be asking from players, as there are no microtransactions in the auto-running platformer.
'Super Mario Run' features three modes in total: 'World Tour,' 'Toad Rally,' and 'Kingdom Builder.' The former will be the most familiar to 'Mario' fans as it has the mustachioed hero attempting to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser. To do so, he'll have to clear six worlds (which feature 24 new courses). 'Toad Rally' on the other hand is a competitive mode where players will try to gain the highest score by collecting coins. This mode is accessed by using 'Rally Tickets,' which are unlocked from playing the main game. Rounding out the package is 'Kingdom Builder,' which allows players to customize their own version of the Mushroom Kingdom. They'll be able to use coins earned in 'Toad Rally' to buy new buildings and decorations.
"The wait is almost over for a 'Super Mario' game that can be played on mobile devices," said Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser. "Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, 'Super Mario Run' brings a new take on the series’ beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time."
'Super Mario Run' releases December 15th for $9.99. It's compatibile with all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices that run iOS 8.0 or later.
