HP Introduces the Thin, Aluminum 'Omen' Gaming Laptop

Standout feature is the chassis.

Business giant HP is entering the gaming laptop fray, and the company's first entry was revealed today as the Omen. Taking it's styling cue from the Voodoo gaming rig of ten years ago, the Omen packs an Intel i7-4710HQ, Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M, SSD, 15.6-inch 1080p touchscreen into a anodized aluminum chassis. The base package checks in at 4.68 lbs at a price of $1499.99. 

The fancy chassis features a fully vented bottom and hosts all of its ports on the back, including the AC port, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, mini-DisplayPort and a 3.5mm combo headphone/mic audio jack. A USB Ethernet adapter is included free and the notebook supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Supposedly, the emphasis on cooling helps the 860M run better than on competing models, and the gaming theme extends to the Omen's input devices. Augmenting the core gaming focus is touchscreen functionality. The IPS display's 1080p resolution was selected as the current sweet spot for hitting high fps in demanding games in a mobile package. Battery life is set at 4 hours and 45 minutes.

Optional upgrades scale up to a 512GB SSD, 16GB of Ram and a 4GB DDR5 GPU. The Omen is available to order now direct from HP.
