Could it be another quick seller?
Update: While the Core now appears ordered out, Amazon has limited customers to one per account, and may even be considering a limit of one between Core and Launch bundles per account.
Last week, the PlayStation VR launch bundle was made available to preorder (ahead of the October release date) and promptly sold out. It was later restocked, only to be quickly sold out again. Amazon appeared to sell out the second time in under 45 minutes. But that was the Launch bundle, and many interested consumers have been awaiting the cheaper Core bundle. The Core bundle has been promised for 7am PT on March 29th. (Order here.)
The PlayStation VR Core Bundle is priced at $399. It includes the PS VR Headset, cables, stereo headphones, and PlayStation VR Demo Disc, but does not incldue the PlayStation Camera, any PlayStation Move Controllers, or the 'PlayStation VR Worlds' disc. (All of which is included in the Launch Bundle).
Hardware wise, it ought to be easy enough to add a PlayStation camera and Move controllers. Considering that the PS Move has been around for half a decade, and the PS4 camera has been around since launch, that's a lot of pre-existing hardware available to use.
The headset features a OLED 5.7" screen, with 1920 x 1080p RGB running at 120hz.
The headset uses 9 LEDs for a 360 degree tracking field and displays a field of view of 100 degrees. And this is with latency of less than 18ms.
The headset works with the DualShock 4, PS Move, and the PS Camera. The headset also supports 3D audio.
The release window is set for October 2016 with a price of $499 for the Launch Bundle (€399/£349/¥44,980). The Core Bundle is priced at $399.
Naturally, the headset requires a PS4 to function. Sony has been working with 230 developers to get content ready and to get feedback on the development of the headset. Already, Sony has announced that 'Star Wars: Battlefront' will have content that is exclusive to PlayStation VR (a standalone 'Battlefront' experience in VR), and that will come as part of a planned 50 launch window games. All PlayStation VR headset owners will be able to download the Playroom VR, which includes six family-friendly games. PlayStation VR will also offer a cinematic mode which will work with all current PS4 software, and the headset's release will see an update of the PS4's media player.
