Online features will be rolled out in waves.
Yesterday, the PlayStation Plus version of 'Driveclub' surfaced briefly, and today, Sony has explained the next steps for the once promised and long missing game. For PS4 owners, it's been a saga. The full version of 'DriveClub' (review here) released last October, nearly a full year late. As the full game's online mode collapsed at launch, Evolution Studios announced a delay for the PlayStation Plus version. In the intervening months, the full game has been patched multiple times, and has maintained a dedicated community, one who has held that the game's patches have corrected its launch day issues.
In a message from Shuhei Yoshida, Sony has explained that the 'Driveclub' PS Plus version will be available to all PS Plus members tomorrow. All players will then have access to the game's offline mode, however, the online mode will be released in waves with the plan to avoid the overload that "millions of PS Plus members" would be likely to bring.
We have to take this precaution because Driveclub connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds.
