From one of the minds behind 'The Suffering'
It's always a wonderful thing when consoles nab the kinds of games that used to be the sole domain of the PC, and yet, here we are, with a new indie title from Richard Rouse III, who was the lead writer on, among other things, the woefully underrated 'The Suffering' back on PS2 and the original Xbox.
The new title, 'The Church In The Darkness', is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and, of course, PC, sometime in 2017 from Paranoid Productions. The game centers around an ex-law enforcement agent who has infiltrated a cult in 1970s South America to check on his missing nephew. Turns out, the boy has joined up with a run by Isaac and Rebecca Walker, who are voiced by real life husband and wife voice actors John Patrick Lowrie ('Team Fortress 2') and Ellen McLain ('Portal').
The first trailer has been released, showcasing some relatively typical stealth, with a few crucial twists. Namely, it's not entirely certain if these are the bad guys you're knocking unconscious or killing. In his post on the Playstation Blog, Rouse mentions that's intentional. In fact, he states that "each time you play the motives of Isaac and Rebecca will change. You soak up the story through the town PA system, where the preachers share their dogma and beliefs. You find documents and letters scattered around camp which clue you into whether everything in Freedom Town is fine, or if bad things will happen if you don’t do something to save these people."
There's an awful lot of folks with guns in this trailer. They might be okay. Check it out below.
