Retooled gameplay mode to come with free patch on April 12th.
'Far Cry Primal' is a fantastic game, but it's also not an easy one, especially with the lack of guns. Apparently, this wasn't enough for some folks, so UbiSoft is calling some serious hardcore bluff here. On April 12th, as part of a free patch, they will be adding Survivor mode to the game.
What is Survivor Mode? Pretty much exactly what you might guess. It's something much closer to the real experience of being a half naked prehistoric hunter in a world that gives zero craps about your prosperity. The big change is permadeath. While there are checkpoints in the story where you can gain a single backup life, if you fail, you're done. But Ubisoft is far from raising the stakes. Survivor mode will also add a stamina gauge, which will run down gradually through the day, and will make Takkar weaker until he actually beds down somewhere for the night. The minimap is turned off, and the fully drawn map fills in much less as you move on. Fast travel now consumes stamina and food. Crafting now takes an actual amount of time, instead of being instantaneous. Cold now affects Takkar way much, meaning cold gear is pretty much mandatory if you're going to be hitting the mountains. In addition, while wild animals are weakened, once tamed, they too are in permadeath mode, meaning if you lose that kickass Mountain Bear you tamed, if he dies, you're gonna have to go find and tame another one.
The Survivor mode patch will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC simultaneously 12. For the PC folks, as an added bonus, your patch will also add 4K textures . You can also watch the devs take on the new mode ahead of time in a livestream which will happen at www.twitch.tv/ubisoft on April 7th at 9:30 am Pacific.
Good luck.
