A whole new galaxy.
Today, BioWare and EA pulled a few fast ones. First off, there is the quite western themed beginning, and then there is the quite familiar looking human character. As it turns out, while it looks every bit the signature that is 'Mass Effect,' 'Mass Effect: Andromeda' is the first game in the series to be developed for the current generation of consoles, and it is the first to use the Frostbite engine.
More than that, the 'Mass Effect' trilogy is being left on its own. 'Andromeda' takes place in a different galaxy, and the player character isn't as familiar as its been (but still human- perhaps not a N7). There is, however, a new Mako with which to tackle all of these new worlds.
'Mass Effect; Andromeda' is tentatively set for holiday 2016, and is being developed for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
