The eternal quest to reduce online multiplayer lag.
'Mortal Kombat X' developer NetherRealm announced a closed beta that will be used to test a new online multiplayer system, with signups starting Tuesday, January 19.
The new multiplayer system is meant to provide online players with an experience that provides less of a feeling of lag and better imitates the feel of an offline match. NetherRealm compared the new system to the GGPO program, which has been integrated in the online play of other 2-D fighting games, like 'Skullgirls' and 'Divekick.'
If you've logged more than an hour of 'Mortal Kombat X' online play, you can have a chance to test out this new multiplayer system by signing up for the beta at beta.mortalkombat.com starting Tuesday (the URL currently doesn't go anywhere). Only four fighters (Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, and Jacqui Briggs) will be playable at the start of the beta, but NetherRealm plans to add more as the test progresses.
