Available at retail in 37 cities.
After an interesting but brief delay, the Xbox One has launched in China. Microsoft has stated that the new console is now available at more than 4,000 retail locations in 37 cities. With the country only recently allowing video game consoles in an official capacity, this is the first official console launch in the country in the last 14 years.
From Phil Spencer, "This milestone is significant for both our partnership with China and our global expansion plan. Every new market launch is unique and we’re grateful to our fans for their patience and enthusiasm. We will continue to work closely with our partner BesTV to bring exciting games, entertainment and app experiences to delight gamers across China."
By adding China, the Xbox One raises its market tally to 41 total markets. China has been a bastion of PC gaming while the country's console market has lacked from the official channels needed to make it a focus of development. The Xbox One will serve as an important test case starting now with PS4 to possibly follow in the future.
