Co-op game of E3.
'Evolve' debuted a few months ago as an interesting idea, propelled in spirit by its developer, 'Turtle Rock Studios,' the people who invented 'Left 4 Dead.' For the rabid following of the unique cooperative shooter, that was enough to pique interest. For everybody else, this week's E3 might just have done it.
A massive display marked a major chokepoint at the L.A. Convention Center, as gamers lined up to get their hands on the one versus four monster mash. The four are hunters, each a unique class, each an important role in the tracking and eviscerating of a horrible, alien beast. The one is that beast, two of which we know about so far. The first is the Goliath, pictured, and the second is the Kraken, shown in a trailer here.
Importantly, this wasn't a mild showing, it was a prideful blowout from publisher 2K, framed as a tournament, and the excited, complicated and compelling gameplay videos flooding the web are proof, at the least, that 'Evolve' has officially entered gaming's consious sphere:
IGN put out a particularly entertaining match between its most public writers.
'Evolve,' happily limited to the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, is out on Oct. 21.
