Pioneer's upcoming Ultra HD Blu-ray drives will include PowerDVD software.
CyberLink has announced plans to bundle a customized version of its flagship PowerDVD program with Pioneer's upcoming Ultra HD Blu-ray drives. The new software will be included with Pioneer's BDR-S11J-BK & BDR-S11J-X, which are expected to start shipping by the end of February.
"As a member of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), CyberLink is working closely with PC manufacturers to lead consumers to the ultimate 4K experience," said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. "PowerDVD is already recognized as the number one solution for playing media content on Windows PCs, and with the added support of Ultra HD Blu-ray we are excited to bring next-generation technology in home and personal entertainment to every family."
With the customized PowerDVD software and a Pioneer Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, users will be able to play Ultra HD Blu-ray discs through supported PC setups. Additional requirements for Ultra HD Blu-ray PC playback include: an Intel 7th Generation Core i5/i7 processor (selected models: KabyLake-S & KabyLake-H), Intel HD Graphics 630 chipsets, as well as HDR, HDCP 2.2, and HDMI2.0a compatible motherboards and displays The Ultra HD Blu-ray format is capable of supporting content with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, an expanded color range, HDR (high dynamic range), high-frame rates (up to 60fps), and the latest object-based immersive sound formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Beyond the bundled software, retail versions of PowerDVD with Ultra HD Blu-ray support are expected to be available early this year.
Outside of the upcoming PowerDVD software and Pioneer Ultra HD Blu-ray drives, several companies recently announced new hardware Ultra HD Blu-ray players models, including the Panasonic DMP-UB400, UB310 and UB300, the Samsung M9500, the Sony UBP-X800, the Philips BDP7502, the Oppo UDP-205, and the LG UP970.
