The worst-kept secret in high-def is now official, with Warner confirming an early Spring arrival for the Will Smith blockbuster 'I Am Legend' on Blu-ray and HD DVD.
As we've previously reported, details for a high-def release of 'I Am Legend' were inadvertently revealed last month when Warner sent early promotional materials to retailers ahead of an official announcement.
Now the studio has confirmed full specs and street dates for the update of the classic sci-fi tale, with the Blu-ray due March 18 (day-and-date with the standard DVD), and the HD DVD/DVD combo to follow three weeks later on April 8.
Announced bonus features are surprisingly slim for a blockbuster that has grossed over $500 million worldwide (and counting). Extras to be shared across all versions include a full-length alternate version of the movie with never-before-seen "controversial" ending, plus four interactive comic books inspired by the film ("Death As a Gift," "Isolation," "Sacrificing the Few for the Many," "Shelter").
Tech specs on both high-def editions include 1080p video and high-res audio in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround.
Finally, Warner has revealed high-res box art for 'I Am Legend' on both high-def disc formats:
Warner has set a suggested list price of $35.98 for both the Blu-ray and the HD DVD/DVD combo versions.
As always, you'll find updated specs for 'I Am Legend' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule, where the disc is indexed under March 18 and April 8, respectively.
