Warner to Debut Stand-Alone 'Batman' Blu-ray

The bat's out of the box, with Warner announcing a stand-alone Blu-ray release for 'Batman: 20th Anniversary Edition,' due this May.

First released as part of the 'Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology - 1989-1997' Blu-ray box set (which also contained 'Batman Returns,' 'Batman Forever' and 'Batman & Robin'), the original 1989 Tim Burton blockbuster 'Batman' will receive its first solo next-gen release on May 19.

The disc appears identical to the version in the box set, with the film presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/VC-1 video and English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Extras also mirror the 'Anthology,' with 'Batman' receiving an audio commentary with Burton, the multi-part "Shadows of the Bat" documentary, additional featurettes, profile galleries, a trio of Prince music videos, and the theatrical trailer.

At press time, none of the other Batman films have been announced for a stand-alone Blu-ray release, but watch this space for any further updates.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $28.95.
