The Wii U's Virtual Console to offer three classic versions of 'Street Fighter II.'
These days when Capcom announces another version of 'Street Fighter IV' eyes rolls in the series detractors' heads no matter how many years it has been since the last update. Some of that angst, resentment, and cynicism undoubtedly descends from a time when 16-bit video game consoles like the Super Nintendo ruled the land.
Capcom has announced today that not one, but three versions of 'Street Fighter II' are coming this week for the Wii U's Virtual Console. 'Street Fighter II,' 'Street Fighter II: Turbo,' and 'Super Street Fighter II' are all set for release on the Wii U.
Several details rob these release of great significance, namely, that all three have been available for the Wii previously and thereby could be played on the Wii U through the Wii mode. Each title is priced at $8, which may be steep, especially for players who have become used to playing 'Street Fighter II: HD Remix' or any number of other more recent Capcom fighters.
Fortunately, there is a discount for those who wish to own more than one of the SNES 'SFII' games. From Capcom, "North American players can grab any one game and get the other two for 50% off; that is, buying one marks both other titles to half their usual price. European players have a more direct path to savings - buy two games, get the third for FREE. Either way you're getting all three iterations of SFII on one platform, now with Miiverse support."
Likewise, the three games are eligible for the SNES Virtual Console upgrade pricing. Those who have purchased the games on the Wii's Virtual Console, and then transferred those games over to the Wii U, can upgrade to the Wii U versions for $1.50 a piece.
