The sex and violence the earlier titles are known for may be going away, for better or for worse.
The 'Dead or Alive' games developed a bit of a reputation thanks to things like "jiggle physics" and the 'Beach Volleyball' titles which were solely meant for the purpose of titillation. It's a bit of an unfair label since the actual fighting games were actually pretty sweet, but developers Team Ninja certainly earned it.
"The old team was known for making games that just had two primary elements: Sex and violence," says Yosuke Hayashi, the new boss of Team Ninja. "The new team, we want to take it to a new level -- to a direction that contains emotional experiences that can move players."
There's also been some talk of a crossover. "In terms of collaboration titles, there are staff on our team who just love fighting games and if there was any chance to do that we'd actively, possibly do that," says Hayashi. He calls out 'Virtua Fighter' in particular, saying that he respects the franchise for breaking ground on the 3D fighting game.
