Still no release date, but Universal is again previewing its upcoming HD DVD release of Ridley Scott's 'American Gangster.'
As we first reported several weeks back, the studio has taken the unusual step of issuing disc details for the still-in-theaters Denzel Washington-Russell Crowe starrer, but has stopped short of announcing an exact street date, saying only that it's planning an HD DVD/DVD Combo release for the flick sometime in March, day-and-date with a matching standard DVD.
Previously announced specs include a 1080p/VC-1 transfer, along with Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 Surround tracks.
Extras are set to include an audio commentary by Ridley Scott himself, the "Fallen Empire: The Making of American Gangster" documentary, "Uncovering the Past" featurette, deleted scenes and a U-Control-enabled picture-in-picture commentary. The HD DVD will also include several web-enabled extras, details of which are still TBA.
Now comes the latest tantalizing preview of this sure-to-be-hot title -- the box art, which drops Universal's familiar HD DVD "swoosh" framing in favor of a more classically stark design:
Universal has set a suggested list price of $39.98 for the HD DVD/DVD combo.
While we await a final street date for 'American Gangster,' you'll find disc details for the linked from the "Release Dates Pending" section of our HD DVD Release Schedule.
