The company is releasing a limited edition Roamio DVR geared toward cord cutters and OTA use.
TiVo has announced the launch of the TiVo Roamio OTA DVR. The device will give over-the-air antenna users recording functions and many of the same TiVo features found on other Roamio models.
"Many top TV shows in America are available with a simple HD antenna," said TiVo CMO Ira Bahr. "TiVo is devoted to making the best possible cable TV user experience available through our operator partners and in retail, but we recognize some viewers opt not to receive the benefits a subscription with a cable provider offers. TiVo Roamio OTA makes sure that they too can get a best in class DVR experience through an antenna, including our world renowned interface and industry defining recording capability at our most affordable price point ever."
The Roamio OTA DVR lets antenna users record up to four shows at the same time and offers 500GB of storage for 75 hours of HD content from local OTA channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS and Univision where available. Likewise, the device also offers streaming support for popular services like Netflix and YouTube. In addition, the OTA model includes the same interface and several of the same features found on other Roamio DVRs, such as universal search, and TiVo Stream and TiVo Mini compatibility. With that said, the model is strictly for OTA use and does not include cable card support.
TiVo's Roamio OTA DVR will launch exclusively at Best Buy stores on September 14 as a limited edition for an initial retail price of $50 along with a $15 monthly fee and a one year commitment for the TiVo service. Meanwhile, cable users can still opt for the currently available TiVo Roamio, TiVo Roamio Plus, and TiVo Roamio Pro.
