'The Blob' Blu-ray Announced and Detailed

Posted Dec 18, 2012 at 01:00 PM PST by Tom Landy

The 1958 gelatinous horror classic brings some gooey goodness to Blu-ray this March!

In an early announcement to retailers, Criterion says 'The Blob' will creep onto Blu-ray on March 12.

One of the great cult classics, 'The Blob' melds ’50s schlock sci-fi and teen delinquency pics even as it transcends these genres with strong performances and ingenious special effects. 'The Blob' helped launch the careers of superstud Steve McQueen and composer Burt Bacharach.

The Blu-ray will feature a 1080p transfer, an uncompressed monaural soundtrack, and supplements include: Two audio commentaries: one by producer Jack H. Harris and film historian Bruce Eder and the other by director Irvin S. Yeaworth Jr. and actor Robert Fields; Trailer; Blobabilia!, a gallery of collector Wes Shank's rare trove of stills, posters, props (including the blob itself!), and other ephemera, and an essay by critic Kim Newman.

Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $39.95.
