While the CHT500 won't be coming until 2011, the SurroundBar 6000 "Instant Home Theater" will be hitting shelves next month.
The Polk SurroundBar 6000 is billed as an instant home theater. It's about as simple as you can get, just plug it in and enjoy.
The SurroundBar isn't designed to take the place of a traditional home theater system, but to substitute when the usual approach isn't practical. It pumps up to 160 watts of power into four drivers, certainly besting a television's tiny built-in speakers. It also comes with a wireless 7 inch subwoofer. It's not the largest, but it'll do the trick.
The CHT500 boasts higher capabilities, offering 7.1 channel audio from a single unit. It consists of three 3/4 inch ring tweeters and nine 3.5 inch mid-woofers. The enclosure itself measures in at 49 inches, making it best suited for larger televisions.
Polk's new soundbar also comes with an SDA Control Module which handles all the processing that needs to be done. You can connect it directly to a receiver and it'll take care of separating the channels out. The CHT500 will be available in early 2011 at a price of $999.
