Fans are hoping that Sony is ready to start the next generation of console games.
Emerging from rumors and leaks and recent weak sales numbers for the Wii U, is Sony's massive tease for the PlayStation brand. February 20th, the day for PlayStation Meeting 2013, is here, and in mere hours, Sony will attempt to captivate both the media and the public with a video stream available in the PS3's "What's New" section and at PlayStation.com.
While it is true that Sony could completely underwhelm audiences today and still recover hype in time for a strong launch, today is nevertheless the opening salvo in an attempt to steal as much thunder from rival Microsoft's upcoming platform as possible, not to mention capturing the spending desire of a public that has seen casual and free-to-play games storm social networks, cell phones, and tablets over past decade.
While the Wii U represented the first console launch since 2006, its raw capabilities seem more on par with the Xbox 360 and PS3, leaving those gamers in search of a next-generation console in envy of the prowess of PC games. With many AAA game developers floundering and Sony itself in turmoil across the board, the PlayStation brand prepares to step from the on-deck circle to the batter's box. Will you be watching?
