Sony Electronics has just launched the latest firmware upgrade for its BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc Player, adding enhanced BD-Java functionality and improved support for BD-ROM discs.
Sony posted a download of the upgrade, dubbed Version 1.55, to its official support site late Tuesday evening.
According to Sony, this upgrade includes the following benefits over the previous firmware upgrade (V1.5) for the BDP-S1:

Sony has sent an email alert to all registered owners of the BDP-S1, indicating that those not wishing to download the upgrade to their PCs and burn their own DVD-Rs will be sent the firmware upgrade on disc via postal mail sometime within the next three weeks.
