Sony to Release 3D Bravia Sets in 2010

Glasses will use active shutter technology.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer will be making some big announcements at this year’s IFA show, but thanks to some information leaked to business site Financial Times, we have apparent excerpts from the speech a little early.

Stringer will be announcing not only the upcoming release of Sony’s 3D Bravia televisions, but the tech to be used as well. Unlike many competitors, Sony’s glasses will use an active shutter technology. Each pair of glasses will features lenses with tiny shutters that open and close rapidly to create the 3D illusion. While this will provide for a better home viewing experience, it will also raise the cost of the glasses.

Sony also plans to enable the use of 3D in current products, such as Blu-ray players, laptop computers and even the PS3. No pricing information has yet been detailed, but more is expected to be revealed in the next few days.
