Sharp Develops 4.1-Inch WQXGA LCD Panel with 736ppi

The manufacturer's latest mobile screen features a staggering pixel density of 736ppi. 

Sharp has revealed its latest smartphone LCD panel. The 4.1-inch display carries one of the highest pixel densities on the market or in development.

The new screen is an IGZO LCD panel with a WQXGA resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. At its 4.1-inches in size, the display offers an impressive 736ppi. For comparisons sake, the iPhone 6 Plus' Retina display features 401ppi and Samsung's Galaxy S5 LTE-A features 576ppi. Likewise, this number gives the screen the same pixel density as a 6-inch 4K LCD. While these specs should yield an undeniably sharp picture, there is much debate about whether the human eye can actually see the benefits of such high pixel densities.

Regardless, Sharp plans to start mass producing the screens in 2016. Meanwhile, rumors indicate that Samsung is developing a 5.9-Inch 4K OLED Display with an even higher 746ppi.
