A Swiss theater is now the first location for Samsung's 3D Cinema LED Screen.
Following a previous trade show demo, Samsung has announced the official launch of its 3D Cinema LED Screen at the Arena Cinemas Sihlcity theater in Zurich, Switzerland. The 34-foot display has been designed to offer a superior 3D experience over traditional projector systems.
"Samsung is thrilled to be able to debut the world's first 3D Cinema LED screen in Switzerland," said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "We hope that more movie-goers can experience the Cinema LED screen firsthand as we look to partner with more theaters around the world."
The 3D Cinema Screen uses direct-lit LED technology to produce a 34-foot 4K (4,096 x 2,160) resolution image with High Dynamic Range (HDR) support, a nearly infinity:1 contrast ratio, highly accurate color, and non-distorted visuals. In addition, the display has been designed to offer an immersive 3D experience without sacrificing consistent, high brightness and resolution performance even when viewers are wearing 3D glasses. Likewise, Samsung has worked to develop an algorithm to eliminate pesky crosstalk which can cause dizziness.
"Zurich is one of Europe's burgeoning hubs for the film industry, and an optimal location to introduce a pioneering technology like the Cinema LED screen to the region," said Eduard Stöckli, owner of Arena Cinemas. "The display's streamlined design also allows our Sihlcity theater to remove its projector closet, making room for additional seats and allowing us to deliver a more complete, comfortable and innovative setting for our guests."
Outside of Switzerland, 2D versions of Samsung's Cinema LED Screen have previously been installed in Korea and China. Likewise, a 146-inch "Wall" home theater display based on similar technology is slated to be released in August.
