The audio streaming technology now offers several new features for compatible devices.
Qualcomm has announced an upgrade to its AllPlay smart media platform. New features include Bluetooth to Wi-Fi re-streaming, custom audio settings, and optimized synchronization.
"The range and capacity of Wi-Fi coupled with the ubiquity of Bluetooth is a game-changing combination for manufacturers and consumers alike," said Sy Choudhury, senior director of product management, Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc. "AllPlay device manufacturers like Hitachi and Monster, which introduced its SoundStage line of AllPlay-powered speakers at Best Buy last month, can now offer their customers more connectivity options and access to myriad streaming services throughout their home with this new capability."
AllPlay now allows customers to re-stream their smartphone music from any Bluetooth AllPlay speaker through Wi-Fi to additional AllPlay speakers. This lets users wirelessly connect individual speakers or a complete home audio system over their Wi-Fi network. In addition, the update gives AllPlay speaker manufacturers several new options, including custom sound equalization settings and channel selection capabilities, optimized synchronization between devices of under 100 microseconds, and Wi-Fi re-streaming from line-in sources. Finally, Hitachi has announced the upcoming release of three AllPlay-enabled speaker models, and more companies like ASUSTeK, Vestel and Magnat have also revealed plans to support AllPlay in future products.
The new Hitachi AllPlay speakers will be available exclusively at Walmart later this month with prices ranging from $149 to $179.
