The spinoff will hit theaters in December.
Paramount has released the first teaser trailer for Bumblebee, offering a surprisingly healthy assortment of emotion to go along with the Transformer franchise's trademark reliance on giant robot action. The prequel spinoff comes from director Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) and will arrive in theaters on December 21, 2018.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Meanwhile, Michael Bay, Stephen Davis, Tom DeSanto, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura all serve as producers. Bumblebee will serve as the sixth entry in the Transformers series, though its story is set before the first movie. Previously released films in the franchise include Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon, Age of Extinction, and The Last Knight. All five were directed by Michael Bay.
Other upcoming movies from Paramount include Mission: Impossible - Fallout which is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
