Paramount Home Entertainment has announced it will bring the '80s blockbuster 'An Officer and a Gentleman" to Blu-ray and HD DVD on July 24.
One of the most popular love stories of the decade, 'An Officer and a Gentleman' earned over $100 million in domestic box office receipts (back when movie tickets cost $3 a pop), turned Richard Gere into a mega-star, and earned Louis Gossett, Jr. a Best Supporting Oscar for his classic portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley.
Paramount, which is already rolling out the red carpet for the film on standard-def DVD with a new special edition (streeting tomorrow), will replicate that set's special features on both next-gen versions.
Among the new extras are five retrospective featurettes with cast and crew (including Gere, Gossett and Debra Winger), a still gallery, the film's original theatrical trailer, and an audio commentary with director Taylor Hackford that appeared on the original DVD (first released in 2001).
Both the Blu-ray and the HD DVD will also include a remastered 1080p transfer, and Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks.
Retail price will be $29.95 each.
We've added 'An Officer and a Gentleman' to our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule under July 24, where it joins another new Paramount catalog classic, 'Ghost,' which the studio just announced for next-gen release late last week.
