HBO CEO's 'Game of Thrones' timetable beat by a month.
As noted in January, the PS3 has been a great all-around media device, and it continues to be a top option with the new consoles still in their media option infancy. But missing among features like Blu-ray playback, DLNA compatibility, and streaming apps enjoyed by millions, has been access to HBO's streaming content. Today's addition of HBO Go brings the PS3 one of its most-wanted apps.
Not only does HBO Go allow subscribers to stream current shows, but it's a key way to access HBO's impressive show back catalog.
HBO CEO Richard Pleper had promised "When we premiere 'Game of Thrones' this year, we will be up on PS3." and that timeline looks to be well beaten. Viewers can dive into 'True Detective' in the meantime.
"With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you’ll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective. HBO GO offers every episode of every season of the network’s best shows. You can also enjoy hit movies, sports, documentaries, and comedy specials, as well as special behind-the-scenes extras."
Of course, the PS4 also has been promised as getting HBO Go access, but a timetable has not yet been announced.
