Check out a full rundown of the latest streaming news and trailers below:
Flaked: Season Two (Netflix, June 2) - A dry human comedy about a slice of life centered on Chip, a celebrated long-time resident of the insular world of Venice, California who falls for the object of his best friend's fascination. Soon the tangled web of half-truths and semi-bullshit that underpins his all-important image and sobriety begins to unravel. Will Arnett plays Chip, a man doing his honest best to stay one step ahead of his own lies. As season two begins, Chip returns to Venice after a short exile and finds that he is persona non grata. No store, no friends, not even a guest house to live in, it’s a long road back to the way things were.
Shimmer Lake (Netflix, June 9) - Unfolding in reverse time, this darkly comic crime thriller follows a local sheriff hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother. The movie is written and directed by Oren Uziel. The film stars Wyatt Russell, Rainn Wilson, Benjamin Walker, Adam Pally, John Michael Higgins, Ron Livingston and Rob Corddry.
CounterPunch (Netflix, June 16) - Discipline, sweat, heartbreak and triumph are all on full display in director Jay Bulger’s look into the world of boxing. Despite the odds, these young boxers are determined to make a name for themselves alongside the sport’s most remembered and revered champions. With an unflinching look at the pain and pride needed to achieve greatness, CounterPunch will surely knock you out.
Castlevania (Netflix, July 7) - Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow! Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
Friends From College (Netflix, July 14) - A new Netflix Original Series from Nick Stoller (Neighbors, Neighbors: Sorority Rising, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek) and Francesca Delbanco. The husband and wife team serve as executive producers and writers on the series and Stoller directs all eight episodes. The eight episode series features an all star cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon, Fred Savage and Jae Suh Park. The show centers on a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.
Ozark (Netflix, July 21) - The Byrdes, husband and wife Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), their teenage kids Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) -- are for all intents and purposes an ordinary family. Ordinary save for Marty’s job: The top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico.
Meanwhile, according to a report from Variety, Netflix has decided not to renew Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down for a second season. The cancellation likely comes as a result of the show's high cost (it was the most expensive original series in Netflix history) and its failure to garner a substantial audience. All eleven episodes of the first season are now available to stream on Netflix.
Finally, Amazon has announced a deal to bring Steven Soderbergh's new film, Logan Lucky, to Prime Video during its exclusive first-run US streaming window in the first quarter of 2018. Prior to its streaming debut, the movie will first premiere in theaters on
