That's the latest news to come out of today's X06 Press Conference, where Microsoft announced an extensive partnership with Jackson to develop games and other content exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Scheduled to arrive at retailers in North America in mid-November, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player will retail for an estimated $199.99 list. The device will come packaged with Universal Studios Home Entertainment's upcoming HD DVD release of 'Kong,' as well as the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote Control. This special bundle will only be available for a limited time, however, and Microsoft did not reveal just how long the window will be.
The Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on is seen as a direct response to Sony's decision to include a Blu-ray drive in its highly anticipated PlayStation 3, set to launch stateside on November 17.
As part of today's announcement, Microsoft VP Peter Moore reiterated the company's support of the HD DVD format, calling it the high-def "format of choice," and differentiated their high-def offering from Sony's, saying: "We're not forcing movie technology on game players but are instead letting them choose how to personalize their experiences."
