Despite the introduction of the Blu-ray and HD DVD next-gen high-definition
formats into the marketplace, standard DVD will
continue
to command the biggest share of the home video pie by the end of the decade,
says a recent report by an industry analyst firm.
According to a study by Understanding & Solutions Research, the overall
U.S. home entertainment market is projected to grow to $30 billion in revenue
in 2010.
The report estimates that high-definition discs will garner $10 billion of that
revenue pie, with upcoming download-on-demand and DVD-burning technologies carving
up $5 billion. But standard DVD sales will continue to bring in the biggest
haul, commanding the remaining $15 billion.
The findings of the study were unveiled by Understanding & Solutions Research
at the Entertainment Supply Chain Academy 2006 conference held in Los Angeles
earlier today, reports Home Media Retailing,
